How much does it cost to ship a horse?+
Horse transport rates vary by distance, route, time of year, and the type of trailer required. As a rough benchmark, expect roughly $0.75–$1.75 per loaded mile for commercial haulers in the United States, plus any layover, special-handling, or insurance fees. On Mane Miles, you post your trip for free and personally-vetted haulers send you exact quotes — no brokerage fees, no markup. You see who you're working with before you commit.
How do I find a reliable horse hauler near me?+
Post your trip on Mane Miles and personally-vetted horse haulers will send you quotes with full company info, USDOT numbers, ratings, and rig photos. You decide who to engage with and when — your contact information is never shared without your explicit say-so. Every hauler completes a phone interview, identity verification, and DOT compliance check before they can quote a single trip.
What is horse transport "rideshare"?+
Rideshare Horsemen are vetted everyday horse people who happen to be heading the same way you need to go. They're a friendlier, lower-cost option for shorter or nearby moves and they go through the same vetting interview as our professional haulers. When you post a transport listing as a horse owner, you can open it to Pro Haulers, Rideshare Horsemen, or both — your choice.
How long does it take to ship a horse cross country?+
A coast-to-coast horse shipment typically takes 5–7 days depending on route, weather, layover stops, and the hauler's schedule. Most professional haulers run dedicated rigs and stop every 6–8 hours to check on horses. When you receive a quote on Mane Miles, the hauler provides their estimated transit time so you can plan around it.
Is Mane Miles a horse-hauling broker?+
No. Mane Miles is a direct marketplace — we are not a broker, dispatcher, or middleman. Horse owners and haulers connect, negotiate, and book directly. We charge no brokerage fees and we do not mark up rates. We make money from a flat hauler subscription ($50/month) and a $25 horse-for-sale listing fee. Owners always post for free.
What is Cancellation Protection?+
Every confirmed booking on Mane Miles includes a $300 Cancellation Protection Hold that activates the moment a horse owner accepts a hauler's quote. If the hauler cancels for any reason, the owner receives a full refund automatically. If the owner cancels late, the hauler is compensated for the lost slot. It keeps both sides accountable from quote to drop-off.
How do I list a horse for sale on Mane Miles?+
Create an account, click "List a Horse for Sale," and fill in your horse's basics (name, breed, age, height, weight, price, location). Upload up to 3 photos. After you submit, we personally call the phone number on your account to verify (a) you're a real person and (b) the horse is on-location at the address you provided. Once verified, your listing goes live with a "Verified" badge. The flat listing fee is $25. Buyers contact you directly by phone — no platform-held deposits.
Do you ship horses internationally?+
Not at this time. Mane Miles is focused on horse transport within the contiguous United States. Some haulers on the platform handle interstate journeys; international shipments involve customs, quarantine, and air-freight logistics that require specialty agents.
What insurance is required for horse transport?+
Professional haulers on Mane Miles carry USDOT-compliant cargo and liability insurance. Specific coverage varies by hauler — ask each one for their certificate of insurance when you receive their quote. For high-value horses we recommend asking about additional named-cargo coverage. Mane Miles does not provide its own freight insurance.
How fast will I get quotes after posting a haul?+
Most listings receive their first quote within a few hours of posting and several quotes within 24 hours. Listings with flexible dates and reasonable trip lengths tend to attract the most bidders. You'll receive a text notification each time a new quote comes in.
